Today we will talk about Inflammation and tissue healing!

Irritability of tissue is depends on the stages of inflammation and repairs. After any connective tissue damage whether it is from mechanical injury (including surgery) or chemical irritant, the vascular and cellular response is similar.

In regards the following stages the time fames might be affected if there is any other medical condition that the patient may have and medication intake due to those medical conditions, all of that will affect the healing process.

Acute stage- Usually lasts 4-6 days but might be longer or shorter and unless the injury is not aggravated.

Sign of inflammation are presents:

  1. Swelling
  2. Redness
  3. Heat
  4. Pain at rest
  5. Loss of function

Range of motion testing- movement is painful and patient usually guards against motion before completion of range. It is body’s way of immobilizing the painful area.

Sub-acute stage- Usually lasts 10-17 days (14-21 days after the onset of the injury), but might be longer or shorter.

Sign of inflammation progressively decrease and eventually disappear.
